DINNER: Welcome dinner in Rome.
Set along Rome’s elegant Via Veneto, The Westin Excelsior offers a grand and comfortable arrival point for the first evening. Day 2 - Umbria
LOCATION: Pick up at Westin Excelsior, Rome.
MORNING
Departing from the bustling streets of Rome, we make our way into the Umbrian countryside, where rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards begin to shape the day’s slower rhythm. As the road winds toward Orvieto, the silhouette of the town’s ancient limestone cliffs comes into view, crowned by its majestic Duomo.
LUNCH: Orvieto
AFTERNOON
Wine Tasting Tour at Castello di Corbara: Nestled in the hills between the ancient towns of Orvieto and Todi, Castello di Corbara produces wines shaped by one of Umbria’s oldest landscapes. The estate carries on a winemaking tradition rooted in Roman times and throughout the Middle Ages, celebrating the distinctive scents and flavors of the region.
Drive to Castello di Solfagnano just outside Perugia
DINNER: Welcome dinner at the Castello di Solfagnano
OVERNIGHT: Umbrian countryside, Castello di Solfagnano
Day 3 - Umbria
LOCATION: Perugia
BREAKFAST: Castello di Solfagnano
MORNING
Castle Walking Tour: Founded in the 13th century as a medieval defensive stronghold, Castello di Solfagnano evolved over the centuries into a distinguished country estate and residence for prominent families. Surrounded by the rolling Umbrian countryside, the meticulously restored castle preserves its historic architecture while reflecting the region’s enduring traditions of agriculture, culture, and noble hospitality.
LUNCH:Deruta
AFTERNOON
L’Antica Deruta has been a respected maker of specialty ceramics since 1950. Using techniques dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, the shop, run by the fourth generation, Giorgio and Camilla Morretti, follows Deruta’s ceramic traditions. Their boldly colored, intricately painted designs set their majolica pottery apart and reflect the town’s long artistic heritage.
Deruta Walking Tour: In the heart of Umbria, Deruta is known for majolica shaped by centuries of artisanal craftsmanship. A walk through the town offers a closer look at the streets, landmarks, and workshops behind that reputation.
DINNER:Perugia - Ristorante del Sole, Perugia
OVERNIGHT: Castello di Solfagnano
Day 4 - Umbria
LOCATION: Perugia
BREAKFAST: Castello di Solfagnano
MORNING
Explore Perugia: Perugia’s museums offer a thoughtful introduction to the city’s artistic and architectural history. The Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria includes centuries-old paintings and sculptures, set within historic buildings that are part of the experience themselves.
LUNCH:Perugia
ATERNOON
Handwoven Textiles: Giuditta Brozzetti founded The Giuditta Brozzetti Workshop in 1921. It is now run by her great-granddaughter, Marta Cucchia. Today, Marta and her apprentice run one of the last handweaving studios in Italy, where they create finely made textiles on original working looms from the 18th and 19th centuries. Marta is part of a shrinking group of artisans preserving Perugia’s medieval weaving culture for future generations.
Olive Oil and Wine Tasting at Castello di Solfagnano: Umbria offers a grounded taste of the region’s agricultural traditions, from the peppery finish of locally pressed olive oil to the character of Umbrian wines grown among these hills.
DINNER: Castello di Solfagnano
Day 5 - Umbria
LOCATION: Città di Castello
BREAKFAST - Castello di Solfaqnano
MORNING
Truffle Hunting and Cooking Class: Fresh truffles are one of Umbria’s most prized seasonal foods, and families here have harvested them for at least 600 years. Saverio Bianconi learned truffle hunting from his father before turning that knowledge into the family business. Today, Saverio and Gabriella are teaching the next generation, their two sons, Andrea and Maurizio, how to hunt for truffles, with the family dogs leading the way.
LUNCH - On-site at the Bianconi family house
AFTERNOON
Bottega Tifernate, Replica Art: Siblings Stefano and Francesca and their father Romolo are the owners of Bottega Tifernate. Their goal is to recreate Italian masterworks using a Renaissance-era technique. Romolo invented the pictographic machine to make the paintings more precise while preserving the character of the original handwork. Their workshop is known for a rare form of replica art practiced by very few others in the world.
DINNER - Local Pizza in Florence
OVERNIGHT - Florence, Plaza Hotel Lucchesi
Day 6 - Tuscany
LOCATION: Florence
BREAKFAST: Plaza Hotel Lucchesi
MORNING
Goldsmith and Jewelry Maker: Master goldsmith Paolo Penko learned the art of handcrafting jewelry from his father. He deepened that training while studying at the Art Institute of France, where he met his wife, Beatrice, an expert gemologist. Together with their sons, Alessandro and Riccardo, they create one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Their handcrafted designs, often inspired by Florentine architecture, reflect centuries of history and tradition in their home city of Florence.
Leather Makers: Pelletteria Artigiana Viviani is rooted in the great tradition of Florentine and Tuscan craftsmanship for handmade leather goods. Founded in 1965 by Master Craftsman Renato Viviani, and now operated by his daughter Viviana and grandson Leonardo, the workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look at the skill and care behind their handmade leather purses.
LUNCH: Florence
AFTERNOON
Custom Frame Makers: The Maselli family shop first opened in 1955 in Florence, by Paolo Maselli. Now his son Gabriele and grandson Tommaso continue his passion for creating high-quality handmade frames. With meticulous attention to detail and Renaissance-era tools and techniques, each frame is a work of art in its own right.
Aperitivo with the Mosaicists: Brother and sister Catia and Leonardo Scarpelli carry on the art of Florentine mosaic known as commesso. Their work demands remarkable precision, from the original design and stone selection to hours of shaping and cutting by hand. Many pieces take months to complete. Their father, Renzo, first opened the shop in downtown Florence in 1972.
DINNER: Farewell dinner in Florence
OVERNIGHT: Florence, Plaza Hotel Lucchesi
Day 7 - Tuscany/Rome
LOCATION: Florence
BREAKFAST: Plaza Hotel Lucchesi
MORNING
Grevi, Hat Maker: The Grevi family started making hats in Signa, just outside Florence, in 1875. Tuscany has been known for straw hat making for centuries, and Signa was once at the center of that trade. Today, the company is run by siblings Guiseppi, Roberta, and Sylvana. As fashions have changed, Grevi has continued to evolve while preserving its family craft. Their hats are sold around the world and have also appeared in films.
LUNCH:Florence
AFTERNOON
Perfume Makers: Florence was a center of perfumery during the Renaissance, thanks in part to Catherine de’ Medici. After Dr. Giovanni Massimo discovered a Medici manuscript of fragrance recipes, he was inspired to continue the art. Today, his daughter Francesca runs the company and works in their Florence shop and laboratory.
